best steam games As the year draws to a close, Valve has released Steam’s annual best of lists, which highlight the year’s best-selling titles, new releases, most-played titles, and more. Valve’s statistics show that many of Steam’s most popular games, including nearly decade-old titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Grand Theft Auto 5, continue to outsell and be played more than newcomers to the PC platform.

Each of Valve’s year-end wrap-ups lists a few games in arbitrary order, making it difficult to tell which game was the best-selling or most-played in each category. Platinum-tier games are ranked first through 12th, while gold-tier games are ranked 13th through 24th. Silver-tier games are ranked 25 through 40, while bronze-tier games are ranked 41 through 100. These rankings are based on Valve’s internal data from January 1, 2022, to April 29, 2022.

The best of 2022 list’s top-selling section is the most important, as it informs gamers about the year’s most popular titles. The Platinum-tier 2022 Best Selling Games, in the order provided by Valve, were:

  • Respawn Entertainment created Apex Legends, a video game.
    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, also known as PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds), is a video game developed by Valve Corporation.
  • The year 2042 is depicted in Battlefield 2042.
  • Naraka’s Bladepoint
  • I’m dead by daylight.
  • In Destiny 2, there’s a whole new world to explore.
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is a video game.
  • Valheim
  • Grand Theft Auto 5: Dota 2

Valve identified several notable repeat offenders in a blog post. For the sixth year in a row, Dota 2, CS:GO, and GTA5 have all made the top selling list, with PUBG: Battlegrounds and Rainbow Six Siege making the list for the fifth time. For the third year in a row, Destiny 2 has topped the list, with 2019 marking the game’s first year on Steam following its departure from Blizzard’s Battle.net platform.

There are a few first-time winners on the list as well. New games on the list include Battlefield 2042, New World, and Valheim. Apex Legends is notable because it is a non-2020 game that was released late last year on Steam.

Another fascinating category is new releases, which highlights the best new releases of the year.

  • Back 4 Blood is the fourth installment in the Age of Empires series.
  • Outriders in Forza Horizon 5

  • Halo Infinite’s Resident Evil Village
  • Battlefield 2042 is a game set in the year 2042.

Valve also provided a breakdown of the months in which new releases were released in comparison to 2022. We had a strong March and September last year. May, September, and November 2022 were a little more erratic, with three significant months (May, September, and November) each having four or five entrants.

Finally, we’ll take a look at Steam’s most popular games, which are divided into categories based on the number of concurrent users. In alphabetical order, here are the 2022 games with over 200,000 concurrent players, as determined by Valve:

Dota 2, GTA 5, PUBG, and CS: GO were among the games on last year’s list. Rust is a graduate of the 100,000 list from last year, giving it a better chance in 2022 than in 2020.

Several of the previous year’s 200K games have also been relegated to lower categories. Destiny 2 and Among Us were relegated to the “100K” category in 2022 after their success last year. Terraria, a 200K game that was released in 2020, has been demoted to the 60K category. Monster Hunter: World, another popular game in 2020, has fallen below the 30K mark. Life is Strange 2 and Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, both 200K games in 2020, do not appear in the most-played games of 2022.
